Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Medical Acupuncture Explained

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is a safe, natural, and clinically effective option for the treatment of a variety of common orthopedic and functional health conditions.  It involves the insertion of very thin needles over carefully selected areas of the body where nerves and their receptors are found.  This stimulates numerous responses in the central nervous system (scientifically documented), that are of potential benefit for many conditions.

Medical acupuncture is effective in treating:

  • Headaches

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Pain Management

  • Acute and Chronic Injuries

  • Sports Injuries

  • Tennis/Golfers elbow

  • Muscle and Joint Pain

  • Low Back and Neck Pain

  • Arthritis

  • Pelvic Pain / Urinary Problems

  • Digestive Problems

  • Mood Problems

  • Addictions

  • Menstrual Problems / Hot Flashes

Contemporary Acupuncture works by activation of the natural pain control and healing mechanisms of the body.  It improves local circulation and muscle nutrition, restoring muscle strength and decreasing pain.  Acupuncture normalizes nerve communication at many levels of the central nervous system, resulting in better hormonal, visceral and muscular activity, and a higher sense of well being and relaxation.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture Explained

Unlike Contemporary Medical Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Acupuncture (TCM) has broader scopes of practice and is used to treat conditions beyond those that are musculoskeletal in nature. TCM Acupuncture works on the principal of unblocking chi (ch’i or qi) by inserting needles at particular points on the body to balance the opposing forces of yin and yang. Chi is an energy that allegedly permeates all things. It is believed to flow through the body along 14 main pathways called meridians. When you are in harmony, chi flows freely within the body and a person is healthy. When a person is sick, diseased, or injured, there is an obstruction of chi.

Chinese acupuncture is effective in treating:

  • Stress

  • Anxiety

  • Pain Management

  • Headaches

  • Hormonal Imbalance

  • Digestive Issues / Condition

  • Balancing Energy

  • Fertility

What is cosmetic acupuncture?

Cosmetic Acupuncture is an effective, anti-aging treatment to reduce the signs of aging. Unlike other popular cosmetic treatments like botox, peeling agents, fat transfer or thread lifting, cosmetic acupuncture does not require the injection of foreign substances into the skin. Cosmetic Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely thin disposable needles into the acupuncture points in the 12 meridian systems in the face and other part of the body. It is based on the principles of Chinese Medicine (TCM), which stresses “health inside makes beauty outside.”  It stimulates our own body’s reaction to induce changes that are natural and do not appear artificial.

When will effects be seen?

Visible, lasting effective results are typically noticeable after 5-7 sessions. Each individual’s response is unique depending on age and lifestyle. Maintenance may be needed for long term benefit. The results could last for 3-5 years.
